NCDC Players Of The Week: February 8, 2023

Week of Feb. 1-7

North Division
Jackson Borst, Boston Advantage
Borst (‘03/Edina, Minn.) put together three of his six goals so far for the Advantage in his first two February games – and two of the three were game-winners. They defeated the Twin City Thunder and the Northern Cyclones to begin February. Together with his time in Jersey, Borst has 14 points in 28 career NCDC games.

Defense: Nick Pomerleau, Twin City Thunder
The Thunder split their first couple games of February 2023, and Pomerleau was among their best players throughout both games. The local ‘03 from Lewiston, Maine, assisted on Dominic Chasse’s GWG in their 2-1 win on Feb. 6 vs. the Northern Cyclones, and also was credited with 17 takeaways over the two games. Pomerleau was recently named to the NCDC’s Best of the Best All-Star Game on Feb. 21 in Foxboro, Mass.

Jacob Torgner, South Shore Kings
Another Best of the Best All-Star Game selection, the veteran Torgner (‘03/Mjolby, Sweden) had the best performance of an NCDC goaltender so far in February. Over two games, he put up 47 saves on 48 shots for a .979 save percentage. This included a 25-save shutout (1-0 win) against the Boston Junior Bruins, and he also made 22 saves in a 3-1 win against the Islanders Hockey Club. Both teams are chasing the Kings for the fourth place position in the NCDC North.

South Division
Forward: Kyle Rohrer, Rockets Hockey Club
Just one of the Rockets’ league leaders for February so far, Rohrer put up five goals and three assists for eight points in just three games. The Rockets put up three straight W’s against the host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights, giving them valuable space against another team pushing for a playoff position. Rohrer (‘05/Oregon, Wis.) has improved to 26 points in 25 games, and he’s on the roster for the 2023 NCDC All-Star Young Guns Game on Feb. 21.

Defense: Jonah Copre, Rockets Hockey Club
Copre (‘03/Elgin, Ill.) put up a 2-3-5 line over the sweep against the WBS Knights, putting him – like his teammate Rohrer – above the point per game pace for the season. The Quinnipiac Bobcats recruit now has 32 points in 30 games on the season, and – also like Rohrer – he will skate on Feb. 21 in the NCDC All-Star event, albeit in the Best of the Best Game.

Goaltender: Peter Pirone, Mercer Chiefs
Pirone put up a fantastic showing when he stopped 44 of 45 shots to defeat the division-and league-leading Jersey Hitmen on Feb. 3, giving him a .978 save percentage. Pirone (‘04/Chevy Chase, Md.) has a 4-1-0-1 record with a .926 save percentage in his seven appearances with Mercer this year.
