Players Of The Week 

North Division 

Forward: Jonathon Surrette, Boston Junior Bruins

The Junior Bruins have been doing their best to play the spoilers, as they split a series with the current No. 1 Northern Cyclones (tied with the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs). Surrette, an ‘03 from Woburn, Mass., was all over the Cyclones’ business with a 1-2-3 performance including the GWG on March 3, and he also posted a 1-1-2 line one day earlier for five points in two games. Surrette also had the league’s second best plus-minus for the week (+5) and blocked four shots. 

Defense: Sean Conlon, Northern Cyclones

Conlon (‘03/Averill Park, N.Y.) was feeling might generous throughout the weekend, putting up five assists in his two games for the Cyclones, improving his points total to 22 in 47 games. The second-year NCDC veteran was also a +2 with 13 takeaways and three blocked shots in the weekend split with the Junior Bruins. 

Goaltender: Trey Miller, Twin City Thunder

The Thunder, fighting for their playoff lives, put together two big wins against the division-leading New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs, both with Miller in the net. On March 1, he stopped 35 of 38 shots for the regulation win, and the next day, it was 29 of 30 in 65 minutes and then two more saves on the Monarchs’ two shootout selections. 

South Division 

Forward: Ty Broad, P.A.L. Jr. Islanders

The Jr. Islanders brought Utica into the building and did what they had to do to give themselves one last fighting chance at first place overall. They won all three games, and Ty Broad joined Luca Leighton in both producing four-point weekends against the Jr. Comets. Broad started with an assist in Game 1 and put up a 1-2-3 line in Game 3 to complete his weekend and improve his points total to 57. 

Defense: Jonah Copre, Rockets Hockey Club

The Quinnipiac recruit Copre (‘03/Elgin, Ill.) had another big weekend for his team as they will chase a playoff berth down to the final weekend upcoming here. Copre had three assists in their two games, a 5-4 loss to Connecticut and a big 4-2 win over the Jersey Hitmen. He assisted on Army recruit Barron Woodring’s opening goal in the win over the Hitmen to help his team to an eventual 2-0 lead over their I-287 rivals. 

Goaltender: J.J. Cataldo, Jersey Hitmen 

Even with a loss to the rival Rockets Hockey Club, Cataldo still had a good enough start to March to have the NCDC’s best save percentage so far in the new month. He stopped 77 of 80 shots in two games (for a .963 mark), including a 39-save shutout over Mercer. That increased what was already a record for single season shutouts to nine.
